This week I’m looking at Delirious? again, but this time it will be some of their tracks that have been sung in Churches over the years.
‘Majesty’ has to be one of my personal favourites. It’s a beautiful worship song and I love the musical arrangement with the awesome bass lines. I have to say I find it hard to hit the notes as it lifts to the chorus but Martin Smith sings it effortlessly. Here it is performed live at the farewell show in London.
Another that I have enjoyed is ‘I found Jesus’. I always liked to play this one, as it’s quite a fun song. I’ve found another live version here as it really captures the joy that comes through finding Jesus. Being a live performance, there is also some wild guitar playing part way through that you don’t get on the studio recording.
On a more recent solo album Martin Smith has recorded a new version of this song, with Isabelle Brown, it’s amazing how different it is, I have to say I still prefer the original, see what you think, here.
Lastly I must include ‘I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever’. It was written by Martin Smith whilst he was on holiday in Devon. He was sitting on the edge of a hill looking at the mountains and the sea and he saw how amazing and beautiful it all was. In an interview by Mike Rimmer for Cross Rhythms, Martin said that the song wrote itself in about five minutes and that it has turned out to be one of the most sung songs in America and around the world. What a well spent five minutes! I’ve again chosen the live version from their farewell concert for you to listen to here.
Well, that concludes my look at Delirious, I could go on forever with songs like ‘Deeper’ and ‘History Maker’, but I hope I have whet your appetite enough for you to discover them for yourselves.
