In the last couple of weeks, the UK football season has gathered momentum, culminating in the start of the English Premier League this weekend.
For many people, football is akin to a religion. Manchester United, for example, has an official board at Old Trafford. ‘MUFC THE RELIGION’ it reads.
However, as the Bible warns us in Psalm 146:3, we shouldn’t put our faith in man. For obvious reasons.

I’m wearing a Wales national football team shirt in this week’s service from the upper room. As well as being proud to be English, I’m also equally proud of my Welsh heritage as well.
Beyond both though, and even my citizenship of The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, I’m a citizen of the kingdom of God, as per Philippians 3:20.
