This week I’m looking at Seventh Day Slumber, a band who have been around since 1996. They got their name from Genesis 2:2 in the Bible where it says that after creating the universe God rested on the seventh day.
They are an extremely versatile band, ranging from performing Church worship songs to full on heavy metal tracks. I actually enjoy the whole spectrum of their music from the early days right up until present time.
The songs all have a positive message to them which is so different to most of the secular rock bands. On the official website it says, “The band remains dedicated to addressing issues like addiction, depression and self-worth through their music ministry, and live performances, inspiring fans from all walks of life.”
Making music that can simply be enjoyed by many, but at the same can time help others through dark times in their lives, is a win-win for me.
Let’s get to some of their tracks, the early songs are quite different to their sound now, they have become a lot more ‘Heavy Metal’ in style as they have progressed. In 1999 they released their first album ‘Matthew Twenty Five’ and the song I have chosen is called ‘Thank You’ here. I love the lyrics to this one and the style of the song actually takes me back to some of the bands I used to listen to in my teenage years.
‘Lion and the Lamb’ here, is a Church worship song that I particularly like so I had to include that, I love how they play it with a rock beat. You can hear on this track that their music has evolved somewhat, this was from 2021, I think the album cover is amazing too.
The last track I shall leave you with is right up to date and was released in May 2025, it’s called ‘Left Behind (Kirk Cameron)’, so named after one of the main characters in the ‘Left behind’ series of movies. Which, by the way, I also really enjoyed. It is actually hard to believe that this is the same band, I’ll leave you to listen and see what you think here.
I did say at the beginning that they were a versatile band, I guess you can see what I mean now. They certainly have something for all ears. I hope there has been at least one version of Seventh Day Slumber that you have enjoyed, I’m loving all three. There are so many more of their tracks, so I have a lot of listening to do, and maybe now I have given you a taster, you might explore some more for yourselves too.
