Country/rock music is the genre I’ve gone with this week, and an artist called Mac Powell. Before his solo career Mac was the frontman to a band called Third Day who were extremely successful in the Christian music world. I will be visiting their music next week but for now we are staying with just Mac.
When you hear his voice you will know what I mean when I say it is somewhat unique, you hear a song and immediately know who is singing. His voice, tones and accent lend themselves extremely well to this style of music.
The title of this blog and his latest single, ‘The 99’ here is one of my favourite tracks. I’ve always loved the 23rd Psalm and the concept that we are lost sheep and Jesus is the shepherd taking care of us and that is the basis of this song. They are lovely lyrics and I like the tune too, it’s one of those that sticks.
This next song ‘Everlasting Arms’ here has an insert of an old well-known hymn that we often sing in our Sunday Service from the Upper Room, ‘Leaning On The Everlasting Arms’. There is a funny story in our family connected with this, our eldest daughter, who was very young at the time, thought the words to the hymn were ‘leaning on the elastic arms’ so that was what she used to sing.
I have a video from a concert at Red Rocks Amphitheatre for you next, I enjoy watching live performances and it’s always nice to see who you are listening to. The song is ‘Floodwaters’, it looks like an amazing venue and it gives a bit of insight into what you get at a Mac Powell concert. You can watch and enjoy from you armchair here
I’m liking the videos myself, so I’ll finish with another from the same concert called ‘River Of Life’ here. Another great song and rather appropriately its the closing song from that particular gig so I shall use it to close this blog entry. I do hope it won’t be the last Mac Powell song that you listen to though.
See you next time with ‘Third Day’ and have a good week.
