As I mentioned in the last blog I am looking at a few of my favourites from Third Day this week. It’s the same amazing voice but a little more ‘rock’ style than Mac on his own.
One of their first songs I encountered was ‘Rockstar’, every time I think of the band this is the track that immediately comes to mind. It’s just one of those tunes that sticks with me. The concept of the song is that even if you haven’t got what it takes to be a rock star and achieve fame and wealth, to God, you are still special. You can listen here.
Love the bass and lead guitar on this next track, ‘Come On Back To Me’ here. It’s Something I always listen out for and on this occasion they don’t disappoint. The intro is so simple, just a few chords, yet so memorable. Great lyrics too.
‘When The Rain Comes’ is a song that finds itself on my all-time favourites playlist. It’s quite a different style to the others I’ve mentioned today. I always like it when a band doesn’t just have one sound making every track seem the same. You can listen here.
Just for fun I’ve added a live version here, recorded at ‘An Evening With Third Day’ event. It’s quite funny, because from watching other live performances when they have had a request section, as in this event, Mac often has trouble remembering the lyrics to the songs. This video shows how the author of the song and guitarist, Mark Lee is coaching him through the words at the beginning. I like live performances for this reason, you get to see these lovely little moments and see that are all only human after all and have the same issues as us all.
Digressing, but I was at a Cliff Richard open-air concert many years ago and when he was about half-way through ‘We Don’t Talk Anymore’, he totally forgot the lyrics. He made light of it and laughed with us, but it just shows these things happen even to the best of them it seems.
Lastly I’ve chosen ‘Show Me Your Glory’, here. This is a live recording from their ‘Farewell Tour’. I’ve chosen this because there is a short chat, mid-video, with Mac and Mark Lee, giving a little more insight into its background etc. It’s a very beautiful song that showcases the many talents of Third Day perfectly.
It was hard to select just a few from the many tracks they have recorded, so I may have to revisit them sometime in the future.
Well, I have really enjoyed watching these live videos, so I am going now to watch ‘The Come Together Tour (Official Concert Movie)’ on You Tube, feel free to join me here.
