As we are now officially in advent I thought it was time to start listening to some Christmas music. I’m not going with the carols we all know so well, (I’m saving them, with a twist of course, for another week), instead I’m going to begin with some alternative Christian Christmas tracks.
First up is my favourite ‘How Many Kings’ here by Downhere. I came across this band quite a few years ago now and this song is one that has stuck with me. The lyrics really bring home the true meaning of Christmas, with a great melody and vocals thrown in for good measure.
‘Ring Them Bells’ here is new to me but as I love ‘Carol Of The Bells’ (especially in the Home Alone movie), I thought I would give this one a try. It’s a new take on the original carol but I really liked it, the voices of Jonathan Traylor and Ben Fuller blend together beautifully and I enjoyed the more contemporary style.
Ashes Remain sing the next song I have chosen, ‘Room For A King’ here. Again, it’s a new one to me but when I heard this I knew I had to include it. It tells the story of the night Jesus was born and the hardships Joseph and Mary endured. I especially like the lyrics “He is all we need, let’s make room for a king”, He’s the best gift that we could ever receive.
We have a bit of a ‘rock ‘n’ roll vibe going with my last selection ‘The First Christmas’, by Tenth Avenue North, featuring Zach Williams. It’s quite a fun song and if you like sixties music you should like this one. Great song, great lyrics and a great way to end the first week of my Christmas blogs. Hope you enjoy here.
