As it’s almost Christmas I thought we could have a little fun this week. A few Christian artists have made some, not all necessarily Christian in their message, but what I would call silly Christmas songs that I quite enjoy so let’s begin.
Crowder is first up with ‘The Elf Song’, here. I thought it was really funny and the lyrics are so clever, quite a funky tune going on too. I like his sense of humour.
This next song is what we always imagine our dog would be singing on the approach to Christmas. When he was a puppy he was quite a naughty little boy, so this song would fit him perfectly. Our granddaughter Nyah, did actually change the lyrics to suit him at one point, which was very funny. ‘I’m Getting Nuttin’ For Christmas’, although new to me until a couple of years ago, actually first became a hit in 1955 with a six year old Barry Gordon as the lead vocalist. I hope you enjoy this version by Relient K here.
‘Joy To The World’ by Hawk Nelson is my next selection. Although it’s not in itself a funny song, the way that they sing it is. It starts off beautifully with them singing a capella, blending harmoniously, and with each verse it goes up a key. Unfortunately to the unbelief of his fellow singers the lead vocalist doesn’t know when to give up. It makes for quite an amusing finish to the song, you can listen here, oh and you may want to cover your ears towards the end, don’t say I didn’t warn you.
If you have visited my blog before you will be familiar with Carman, this next song called ‘Celebrating Jesus’ here, is a great song to end with, it’s not a funny song but he certainly has some fun in singing it. If you like 60’s music and especially Elvis, this will be right up your street.
The real meaning of Christmas, as Carman says in that song is all about celebrating Jesus, so on that note, and as Cliff Richard used to sign off on his Christmas newsletter, I wish you all a ‘joy-filled, Jesus-filled, peace-filled’ Christmas.
I just couldn’t leave without this one last song for you here.
Happy Christmas!
