This week we are discovering the D’s of Christian music. I have to say I struggled with this one at the start, but then as I persisted in my search, I managed to find some that I liked. Too many to share in fact, so I will have to save them for another time.
First up is Desperation Band who are predominantly a praise and worship group. The two songs I have chosen are both live recordings, made as they were leading meetings. The first is called ‘Counting On God’ here and was recorded back in 2007. The second track is called ‘Promises’ and that goes back to 2006. You can listen here. I do like their style of worship, very uplifting.
Next we have Disciple with a track called ‘Firm Foundation’ here. This is a song used in church worship services, and one that I particularly like, so that swayed my decision. I really like this arrangement in collaboration with Honor And Glory, especially the vocals. I chose another track called ‘Resurrecting Reasons’ here that is shared with a band called Decyfer Down, who are coming up next in their own right.
Decyfer Down are my winners for the D’s. Their two tracks I have selected couldn’t be further apart in their style, which goes to show how versatile some of these bands can be. I’ll break you in gently with the first song which is ‘Forever With You’ here. A lovely rock ballad with great lyrics. I’ve chosen a video for the second track ‘Anchor Me’. It’s nice sometimes to have something to watch while you listen, and it has the lyrics too, so feel free to sing along. This, as I said earlier shows a completely different side of the band. You can listen and watch here.
I will just include one more band; I saw the lyrics and title of the song and thought it looked good and I also liked their name, Deuteronomium. The track I found is based on Psalm 117 which I have linked here. It wasn’t quite what I expected when I listened to it. I don’t mind a bit of ‘screamo’ in a song but I do prefer when I can sing along, even if its just in my head. I’m sure this band reaches a lot of people who enjoy this kind of music though, so I’m not knocking it at all, it just isn’t really for me. If you’re feeling brave, click the link here to listen to a very unique version of ‘Psalm 117’.
That’s all for today, quite a mixed bag there. Enjoy, and I’ll be back next week with more new discoveries.
