This week we are looking at my selections for the letter G. I have come across, what I consider to be, some great finds for you this week. Quite different to my normal style but I am liking them very much.
Garrett Hornbuckle is first, and apart from having an amazing name, he makes great music too. He began leading worship in his home church as a teenager and now he is touring the USA alongside other well known bands. He has only released a few songs, which I would describe as country/rock, but the few that he has are very good. My two selections are ‘Out Of My Head’ here, great positive lyrics and a really catchy tune, and ‘Hell Shakes’, in video form, here.
Next up is a band called Grammatrain, who began in Seattle back in 1994. The songs I have picked out are all from their 1997 album called ‘Flying’. Considering this was 29 years ago, I think they have a very up to date sound. The album title track is one that I particularly liked for the lyrics. It tells the story of a dream which is actually symbolising what Jesus did for us. We are the child and Jesus is the great bird. Great song and even better if you follow along with the lyrics on Spotify. You can listen here.
I couldn’t choose between two for a second song of theirs, so I have linked them both, ‘Peace’ here, in video form and Found in you here. If you like their sound as I do I’m sure you will enjoy both.
Lastly we have Go Fish who began as an a cappella group, but have now expanded into providing children’s ministry resources and educational songs for teachers to use. I’ll begin with their ‘Parade’ album, with a song called ‘Savior’ here. They have a beautiful sound with lyrics to match. The next song is from their Go Fish Kids Music, but I think you will still enjoy it. It’s called ‘I Believe’ and it has a great video to watch while you listen here. I couldn’t go with out including one more track from them. It’s a song that I have always liked and they have made a brilliant cover of it. I’m quite sure you will be familiar with it from other artists and it’s a great way to end my blog for this week, the track is ‘Shackles’, and you can listen here.
Hope you all have a good week, and see you next time.
