Last time, I mentioned that it was my turn to lead the church service in the physical church that we attend. All went well, my theme for the worship time was praise, and I said it would be good to imagine ourselves before the throne of God in Heaven.
Saying that, I made a joke that I’m pretty sure when we get to heaven, the worship will just flow and we won’t have to be concerned with tuning our instruments correctly to the piano or synchronising the words and order of the songs with the musicians and the monitor for the congregation to sing.
Some of the modern songs can be quite complicated, with a pre-chorus, bridges, a coda, etc. I have a method of numbering where we go from one thing to the next so then I can just follow the numbers as we go. I do this because sometimes it can be quite hard to remember what part comes next.
The musicians have to be in sync with the words on the screen for the congregation, so we spend a fair amount of time working all this out before the service begins.
Saying that, even with all this preparation, we have still found ourselves playing one thing, when something completely different is on the screen. We laugh and begin again, so it is never an issue. One of our funny sayings is, ‘It all helps if we are on the same page.’
One song that I wrote about last week, and mentioned in the Church service is still very much in my head, so I thought I would share the link to a new rock version by Seventh Day Slumber. Any of you that have read my previous blogs will know that I am a big fan of theirs, so when they released their latest album, and I found it included some of my favourite songs, I was very happy. The song in question is ‘Praise’ and you can listen here.
Another song that I included in the church service was ‘Holy Forever’, which is also a big favourite of mine. This is also on the same Seventh Day Slumber album ‘Thy Kingdom Come’, so I shall end with leaving that here for you to enjoy. If you like the way they re-work the worship songs, I recommend you listen to the whole album, it really is good!
Hope you all have a good week ahead, and see you next time.
