True North

As I said in my last blog, this week is back to the alphabet search. It is a new artist that I have recently discovered, and really taken to, and his name begins with J. Initially I was struggling to find something I liked beginning with that letter, but then when I wasn’t particularly searching I came across Jervis Campbell. It’s often that way isn’t it, when we stop trying so hard we often find what we are looking for.

I quickly listened to a couple of songs and liked them, then I put him on one side as such, to listen to properly at a later date. As it happens I have been busy with a bit of DIY in our shower upstairs. We noticed a wet patch on the living room ceiling and came to the conclusion that the shower was probably the culprit.

Therefore, I have been busy removing all of the old grout and sealant so that we can replace it all, and hopefully cure the leak. Well DIY to me means listening to music, especially if it is a long job, so I set to work in the shower and thought it would be a good time to play through some of Jervis Campbell’s albums.

It has been a busy week as Stewart and myself were at a ladies’ rally in the local Methodist church on Tuesday, Stewart was speaking and I was asked to sing. I needed to get the songs I was going to be singing firmly in my head, so in between Jervis Campbell, I was listening to ‘How Can I Keep From Singing’ by Chris Tomlin.

I have shared this one before but there is a video of Chris Tomlin singing it live linked here if you would like to hear it again. I also sang the hymn, ‘What A Friend We Have In Jesus’. I already knew that one well, as it is a favourite of ours, and it features regularly in the Upper Room service for The Church At Hiraeth.

I am also leading the service for our physical church on Sunday, so I have had a lot of songs going around in my head this week. I will share some of the songs I chose for the service in my blog next week.

Anyway back to Jervis, I have quite a few favourite songs already. With the amount of time it has taken to do the shower, I have been round the playlist a few times now. He has a very different modern style to some of the artists I usually listen to but I really like it. The first song that stood out to me was ‘Glory’. I love his voice, the lyrics and the style of the song is just really different, it is a song that has really stuck with me, you can listen here.

Another song that stood out to me called, ‘Do It All Alone’, reminded me of another band I like called Rend Collective, as I was working while listening I couldn’t see my phone at the time. After I had finished I looked the song up and funnily enough it was a collaboration he had made with the aforementioned band so I was right in seeing the similarity. Loved this one, it is very Rend Collective style and you can listen here.

I’ll just share one more, but if you like what I have covered so far, I urge you to check him out for yourselves, because I could go on sharing songs that I like all night. I struggle to choose but ‘True North’ here, is high on my list. Again, I love the lyrics and the whole style of the song.

I wish you all a good week and I’ll see you next time… just one more before I go… I can’t leave out ‘Praise Him Forever’ and you can listen here. Oh, and I must include ‘Find You’ here. I did say I liked him, I hope you do too. Bye for now.
