Last Sunday, it was my turn to lead the first part of the service in the physical church that we attend. The opening song I chose was called ‘King Of Kings’. As it was Pentecost Sunday, I mentioned to pay special attention to the fourth verse, as it spoke about the gift of the Holy spirit being given, thus sparking the birth of the Church.
I really like this song as it tells the progressive story from the birth of Jesus through to His resurrection, also showing the hope that we have in Jesus for our own lives. Here is a lovely version recorded by Chandler Moore.
‘The Stand’ is another song that I selected, it has always been a favourite of mine, but that isn’t my reason for including it because, when it comes to church, it’s more about the lyrics fitting in nicely with the theme of the service. You can listen here to a version sung by Shane & Shane and The Worship Initiative.
My part of the service closed with ‘Build Your Kingdom Here’. I heard this song when it first came out back in 2013 and I loved it, such an upbeat, uplifting tune and I loved how Rend Collective performed it. It’s hard to do it justice with just a few of us in the band at Church, however we are not playing for performance purposes, we are leading a time of worship and the words of the song are paramount. I’ve actually found a punk version for you to listen to, performed by Rend Collective in collaboration with Grace Graber, here.
I’m currently searching out and listening to new music again as part of my alphabet quest. We have reached the letter K, so here’s hoping I can come up with some great new music for next week. See you then and, watch this space…
