Hello, My Name Is

Matthew West is the artist that brings us to the M in the alphabet. I listened to so many bands and artists this week but none of them really gripped me, until I found his music. The lyrics speak of everyday life and circumstances and always bring hope and positivity into each situation.

Before beginning his solo career, he started out by writing songs for other artists including Billy Ray Cyrus and Rascal Flatts. There is a very short eight second track on one of his albums called, ‘Why I Make Christian Music’ here, the next song that follows on is called ‘Love On The Radio and it gives his answer. He is not bothered about the fame and money, he would rather let his light shine to promote Jesus. I love that about him.

The title song, ‘Hello, My Name Is’, here, was inspired by a life story that he read from someone called Jordan. It’s too long for me to tell, but alongside the song on the album there is a follow up track with the story behind it. It’s really worth a listen here and shows how God can change our lives around if we will let Him.

‘Last Page Of The Bible’ is another song that stood out to me. It begins with doom and gloom and noting how bad the world is today. I’m sure that’s something we can all agree with. BUT… he has read the last page of the Bible, and if we have too and read it right to the end, we know that everything will be alright for those who put their trust in Jesus. You can listen here.

I have a video here for you for the next track. It’s called ‘Good’. There is a particular phrase in the lyrics that stood out to me and it says, “I’m not loved because I’m worthy I’m loved because you’re good”. It’s also a great song to listen to despite the words.

My final Matthew West song is called ‘More’. This was the first song that I heard and I loved the chorus part musically, it’s such a catchy tune. I also really enjoyed the lyrics to this song. However small and insignificant we may feel, God, who made the stars and the sun and all creation, loves us MORE than we can imagine. I’ve found a lovely video of it to end with, hope you enjoy, here.

That’s the end of my small insight into Matthew West and his music. There is so much more of his music to discover, so if you have enjoyed this, take a look, you may discover some more great tracks.

See you next week.
