Last Monday, Stewart was preaching at a ladies meeting in a local Methodist church, and I was asked to sing. One of the ladies, who is a friend of ours, asked if I could do the song again that I sang at the Ladies Rally a few weeks ago. It is called ‘How Can I Keep From Singing’, by Chris Tomlin. I’ve shared this song a couple of times now, but I have found a little more up-tempo version by Elevation that you can listen to here.
On Monday morning, before the meeting, I kept thinking that I ought to take another song with me, just in case, so I had a look through some possibilities. I decided on one called ‘El Shaddai’, which was made popular by Amy Grant back in 1982. I had the song in a book but needed a printed version as it was over two pages and it’s not easy to turn a page whilst playing the guitar.
I found a suitable version on-line but when I came to print it out, my printer wouldn’t work. I don’t know what it is about printers but whenever you need something urgently they always refuse to cooperate. Anyway after about the tenth print out I had a copy that was legible. I almost gave up at one point, thinking that I wouldn’t need it anyway. But I did persist, and managed to get the guitar chords written on and packed it away in my guitar just shortly before we left.
When we arrived at the church the lady who organised the service asked Stewart if he could lead, as well as preach, as one of the ladies involved wouldn’t be able to attend. She then asked if I could sing two songs… so I did need that other one after all. There I was, undecided whether to take it, almost giving up because the printer was playing up, but God knew that I needed it and prompted me to persist and take it along with me.
Both songs went well and so did the rest of the meeting. We always enjoy our times there, they are a lovely group. Tea, cake and lots of conversation always follows which is a lovely way to end the meeting.
Here is video of Amy Grant singing the second song that I chose, ‘El Shaddai’. Stewart does like to listen to her music in the car from time to time, so I’m sure he will enjoy this one too. While we are on the subject of Amy Grant, I will just share one more song that I like before I go, I may sing this at some point in the future, it’s called ‘Thy Word’ and you can find it here.
That’s all for today, I’ll see you next week, and we’ll be back to my alphabet challenge.
