I have a busy Sunday ahead, as I am providing the music for a church in the morning and leading the evening service for our physical church in the evening. Stewart is also preaching at both meetings. I thought I would postpone the alphabet challenge again this week to share some of the songs that we will be having on Sunday.
I have chosen two songs from each service to share with you today. Those of you that watch The Upper Room service on a Sunday would be familiar with both of the first two hymns from the morning service, but I have tried to find something a little different. Here is a lovely version of ‘What A Friend We Have In Jesus’ by Ghost Ship. Behind a lot of hymns there is a story of how they came to be written and this one has a background of tragedy. The writer suffered great loss of a loved one, not once but twice, and he still remained faithful to God throughout.
The other hymn you will be familiar with is ‘To God Be The Glory’, a much loved song over the years. Here is a lovely version with an alternative tune sung by Lou Fellingham.
Now to the evening service, this time I have chosen two more modern songs. The first is ‘Goodness Of God’ sung here, by Rhett Walker. I love it when Christian artists and bands of different genres cover church worship and praise songs. Each one gives the song a different spin. I especially like the rock versions, but I couldn’t find any today for these particular songs other than A.I. versions. I tend to avoid these as I would rather listen to real bands. There is the argument as to whether they are all ethical as well, so I prefer to give them a miss, even though they can sound sound very good.
My last song for today is ‘Shout To The North’ and is a song by the band Delirious? that has become much used in churches today. You can listen here to a live version from their Farewell Show recording back in 2010. Delirious? were a big favourite of ours and we were pleased to be able go and see them live in Birmingham before they disbanded.
