The band I’m going to look at this week was found for me by Spotify, and what was initially an annoyance that comes with the free version, turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
Our usual subscription had expired and we were trying out the free Spotify to see how different it was. We realised there are a lot of benefits with the paid version, one of them being no adverts, which do come thick and fast.
One of the downsides when it’s free, is that it will not play an album straight off. Instead, after a couple of tracks you get an advert, and then it throws a random song at you that is similar in style to what you are listening to. Well, the band today is one of those ‘annoying’ random songs.
I was listening to Rock And Roll Worship Circus, when I heard a song that sounded amazing, but it didn’t seem like their style. I quickly grabbed my phone before it finished and found out that it belonged to a band called Vota. It wasn’t an ‘annoying’ song after all, and turned out to be a band that I really liked, and may never have come across myself.
On researching the band, I discovered that Vota is a duo, led by Bryan Olesen. He was formerly with a band called Newsboys, but more interestingly he was a top three finalist on a singing competition, that some may be familiar with, called ‘The Voice’.
The track that caught my attention, is called ‘You Alone’, and you can listen here. I really like the vocals and it’s definitely my kind of song.
I found a couple more to share with you. The first is in video form and is called ‘God Of The Universe’. I loved the lyrics on this one: ‘You are the God of the universe, the stars in the sky are your fireworks’. I love the night sky and always marvel at the beauty of the stars. Every night, they remind us that God created them. You can watch here.
The final track is a cover of a song originally by Tim Hughes, who has written quite a few worship songs that are used in church services. There are great lyrics in this one as well, reminding us that God has the whole world in His hands and is always watching over us. I really like their version, which is called ‘Whole World In His Hands’, that you can listen to here.
Hope you enjoy. Wishing you all a good week and and see you next time…
